Polymer Notes vs. Paper Banknotes
The following excerpts were taken from Wikipedia.
What is a Polymer Banknote?
"Polymer banknotes are banknotes made from a synthetic polymer such as biaxially oriented polypropylene. Such notes incorporate many security features not available in paper banknotes, including the use of metameric inks. Polymer banknotes last significantly longer than paper notes, causing a decrease in environmental impact and a reduced cost of production and replacement."
Polymer Note Security Features (not necessarily specific to VND or any particular denomination thereof):
"Polymer banknotes usually have three levels of security devices. Primary security devices are easily [recognizable] by consumers and may include intaglio, metal strips, and the clear areas of the banknote. Secondary security devices are detectable by a machine. Tertiary security devices may only be detectable by the issuing authority when a banknote is returned."
From Naif Arab University for Security Sciences:
"Polymer banknotes are more durable than the Paper (natural polymer) banknotes (lasting around four times as long). Finally, these have a clear window, which is an effective optical security device. Finally, these are cleaner and more hygienic because of their non-porosity."
Vietnamese currency has seen its market price more than double since Spring of 2020 when global shortages resulted in the currency becoming hard-to-find outside of Vietnam, and the market prices more than doubling since May. The official exchange rates listed at respected authority foreign exchange rate websites like Xe have not reflected the imbalance of supply and demand in the global marketplace, making VND a hot item among collectors and currency speculators. Another interesting development pertinent to the Vietnam currency, is the introduction and launch of VNDC, a cryptocurrency stablecoin, the price for which is tied to the Vietnamese Dong, hence the "VND" in "VNDC."
Authenticity
All five of the polymer banknotes have been tested for authenticity under ultraviolent ("UV") black light (see photos), and notes from the same bundle as the 5,000 have been successfully checked with a counterfeit detection pen. The five notes seen under the UV light are the exact notes the buyer will receive, and are fully guaranteed to be authentic, with serial numbers and year recorded in our database along with the photographs taken under UV light.
