Dual 1229 Turntable for Restoration or Parts. Tested!!
This is a Dual 1229 turntable that I've opted not to restore and sell "AS IS". It is for the turntable alone, no base or dustcover, and the spindle and headshell carrier are also not included.
I've tested it and it runs well, changes speeds, and cycles as it should, but it should be cleaned of old grease, re-lubed and tuned before being placed in daily use. I did a 1219 a few years back and it was more work that I care to repeat on this one, but this is a great opportunity for someone else.
Cosmetically it looks quite nice, but does have two flaws. There are a couple dings in the platter mat centerpiece around the spindle hole, and there is some spots of surfcae rust on the chassis under the platter that can be left as is or sanded off and painted. Neither are visible in use or affect play. The underside is very clean and the moving parts look very nice.
The 1229 was the top of the line Dual back in the 1970s. Fully restored models of this turntable regularly sell for 0+ online, which shows how desirable this model is, and how prudent one might be to have a set of spares about in case they become needed.
This would be a great piece to restore as it seems to work very well as it stands. Or it could be a parts harvest for a rebuilder or an owner who just wants the security of some backup for their prized 1229.
