    Description

French Indochina - Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia
    1953 - 5 Piastre Bank Note
French Indochine - Cinq Piastre - Nam Dong
For the states of Cambodia, of Laos and of Vietnam
It was a common practice in the 1950's in Vietnam, in certain business dealing, that one side of the transaction took one half of a note (pay you half now and half when deal is completed). Notes were torn apart, in many cases they were never re-united with people from both sides of the deal happy to accept half of a note regardless of whether of not it related to the half they had in their possession.
Stores and banks were happy to accept these, dual number serial notes.
Until the 1960's. At some stage in the 1960's banks stopped taking them, then stores and traders stopped taking them. Needless to say the practice died out pretty quickly once this happened. To this day, Vietnamese are enormously wary of taking damaged or what they consider to be 'Out of date' bank notes.
This is one of three of these notes I picked up some years ago. All joined together and showing two different serial numbers.
    Specifically rare pieces.
    Serial Numbers: 077229 and 002675
