    Description

This 1962 Magnavox "Stereo Entertainment Console" model SMP357R in "Normandy Provincial" style has six speakers, AM/FM radio, Micromatic record player, and black & white television with "Dramatic 330 square inch picture". Its also equipped with "power tuning", which mechanically turns the channel dial knob for you! A top-of-the-line unit, it retailed for 0 back in 1962, which translates to about ,600 in today's money. Turntable works great after letting the platter motor run for a minute or two, but the 33RPM side of the needle is damaged (78RPM side works fine, but you shouldn't play non-78's with it). AM/FM radio picks up stations without issue, and the tuning needle responds well. The lower dial light is burned out, but the upper one illuminates it pretty well in the dark. TV is tested and working, but picture angle is slightly off, and you can see some slow wavy movement in the screen image if you pay attention. The only major problem with this console is with two of the speaker selection settings. When using setting D or E, all output power goes to the built-in speakers and the stereo sounds incredibly loud and clear, but the right channel fades to nearly silent after a few minutes. It works for a short time every time its powered on, but always fades out eventually. Choosing one of the other settings apparently splits the power between the onboard speakers and remote speakers you can connect to terminals on the rear of the cabinet. The volume level isn't as high, but all speakers work without issue, it still gets quite loud and still sounds nice. None of the electronics appear to have been altered or repaired. It has been in storage for decades, and I would have to assume it would need a professional once-over or even partial restoration prior to regular use. For this reason, it is being sold as-is, as-described. Exterior shows some minor chips and fading. Sliding top doors are slightly concave, and the turntable door actually has a small crack on the underside (not visible from the top). Heavy boxes were likely sitting on them for a long time while in storage. Everything has been thoroughly cleaned and detailed, including turntable and behind the angled glass screen protector. interior was dusted, too.
