Fabulous set of four antique Chinese Qing Rose Medallion porcelain nine-inch plates with a traditional medallion design featuring village scenes and floral and bird panels. All four of these plates are in exceptionally good condition with no chips or cracks or chiggers that we have detected. Qing Dynasty circa 1850-1890.
These magnificent Qing Dynasty antique Chinese hand painted porcelain Rose Medallion nine-inch plates depict traditional alternating panels of floral with birds and village scenes with a floral central medallion. They have unmarked bottoms which dates their origin to prior to 1890 and after approximately 1850, since this style of Chinese porcelain was first made in the mid-1800s to satisfy the export demand from Europe and later the United States. These plates have an interesting provenance. They were once owned by the man who was the Chief Medical Officer at the Panama Canal during the first half of the 20th century where and when these were obtained. I’m told they were friends with and entertained young Ike and Mamie Eisenhower. So possibly Ike was served from one of these plates! Whether actual or not, these plates are wonderfully beautiful and fine; and, it’s a delightful story! I know you want this awesome set of four. Or possibly you want more? It just so happens we have other nine-inch plates listed as well in assorted designs or states of condition, along with other Chinese porcelain. Just go to all our listing to view them.
