    Description

Selmer Series 10 Enhanced Boehm system clarinet
in Bb, nickel plated keys: circa 1978.  1 yr. warranty on workmanship and seven day trial period.  This clarinet shows an improvement in keywork over the two previous generations of popular Selmer clarinet models and introduces a drastic change in bore design and philosophy.  The N Series, Centered Tone, and Series 9; each boasted advantages in larger bore offerings which became popular for many styles of playing.  The Enhanced Boehm and Full-Boehm models of Selmer have always made them a first choice for particular performers of a variety of playing requirements. With the Series 10, Selmer moved production to a narrower/mid sized bore.  It seems they were chasing a trend created earlier by Buffet, Yamaha, and some Boosey and Hawkes models that had become increasingly popular for about 20 yrs.  The Selmer 10 has a bore dimension of 14.9mM (top) with a reverse taper to 14.25mM (bottom of the top joint).  The sound is smooth and clear throughout the entire range and offers just enough resistance to give the performer confidence in the highest notes and the softest.  The tone holes feature the popular undercutting style which allows for smoother air flow, smaller size and ergonomic placement.  The sound, however, is a bit bright in the upper clarion register for our tastes so we've matched it with a world-class barrel and mouthpiece by Clark W. Fobes to give it more focus.
The matching of the custom barrel and mouthpiece is one of the superb extras this listing has to offer.
Upon examining the photos, you should see that it is in a rare/like new condition, yet our restoration is much more involved than polishing and refitting with excellent pads.  We spend about two extra days adjusting for the finest sound and pitch which prepares it for performance with the finest orchestral and band situations.  This Boehm version includes the addition of the articulated C#/G# trill key with the tone hole located on the bottom joint which enhances both sound and intonation (see photos). With the addition of the left hand Ab/Eb key, the model is now complete for ease of facility during some of the most cumbersome passages other clarinetists usually stumble awkwardly through.
Since a clarinet of this quality should be available for testing and comparison, we give you two weeks to play it.  It comes packaged in a ProTec new case (shown in dark blue but may be available in black as well), original barrel and a special Fobes barrel that plays at A-441, a new Selmer swab & polishing cloth, cork grease & natural bore oil by "The Instrument Clinic" and a Luyben advanced ligature.  Do not open the packaged accessories if you plan to return the clarinet and...all shipping charges are the responsibility of the purchaser. Any change in its original condition will be charged back as a "re-stocking fee".
