Sylvania Record Player Exponent 4/50 serviced, includes built-in Bluetooth

Sylvania Exponent 4/50 complete and working with Bluetooth adapter built-in. All functions work, FM, Bluetooth 4.0 input into Tape, and (magnetic cartridge) phono turntable.
Much work was done to this unit:
All electrolytic caps replaced, power supply caps upgraded
phono preamp has all new parts – caps, transistors, sounds very good
New power and input selector switches
new DAT-2 stylus, 0.7mil diamond
Turntable was serviced, new idler, new proper lubrication – works properly in auto mode
new speaker cables
FM tuner pulls in numerous stations
speakers were checked for leaks & other mechanical problems and tested fine – no buzzing or other issues.
Cosmetically very good, a few scuffs on fold out turntable as shown in photos, shows some wear from being new in 1969!
Includes 45 rpm adapter and single play small record spindle.
These units are relatively rare, probably because they were expensive new, and very heavy for portables. Always had a soft spot for the old Sylvania's, next to the KLH units probably the nicest from that era.
This unit works really well. Sound quality is good, but as expected the high frequencies are somewhat rolled off. Keep in mind this player is 52 years old! Compared to current systems it sounds surprising good. The Pickering DA-T2 stylus is a new replacement with a spherical diamond tip. Because these tables did not 'control' the orientation of the stylus accurately, a spherical shape is the best approach. Elliptical stylii can be used with a more precise tonearm. The needle tracks at about 3 gms.
There is a faint hum heard on all inputs which is at very low level. Due to the cabling, I suspect the faint hum is due to how this unit is put together. I had noticed this before and after the servicing
with all new caps
. The power supply and amplifier is underneath the turntable, and the cables run AC back (power switch) to the preamp/tuner section to the right.
The Panelescent backlight on the FM dial does work, but it is really dim after 50 years.
A Bluetooth 4.2 adapter was installed internally, and is powered on with the power switch. This allows a phone, tablet or computer to stream high quality audio to the Tape input. One simply needs to pair to the unit. Range is about 30ft or so.
Phono, FM and Bluetooth sound levels are the same so switching inputs does not require volume adjust.
This Sylvania has been serviced throughout and is working well but keep in mind it is still over 50 years old, and not every single parts was (or can be) replaced. This is a great working vintage piece but cannot be warrantied due to age.
